SuperSymmetry Institute conducted a four-day delegation visit to Gaborone from 23 to 26 July 2025, holding over 15 meetings with senior government officials, institutional leaders, and private sector representatives. The visit established SSI as a strategic partner for Botswana’s government modernization efforts.
The SSI delegation was led by Anastasia Kalinina, Co-founder and CEO of reState Foundation, and Hugo Mathecowitsch, Founder and CEO of Tools for the Commons. In Gaborone, they were received by Emma Peloetletse, Permanent Secretary to the President; Matshidiso Bokole, Deputy Permanent Secretary to the President; and Dr. Farzam Kamalabadi, Presidential Envoy on International Relations and Economic Development, and his team. Meetings with public sector leaders included Vasilis Koulolias, Presidential Advisor on Digital Transformation; Nathaniel Tlhalerwa, Director for Public Sector Reforms; Dinah Letsholo, Deputy Director of the Public Sector Reforms Unit; Tapiwa Masie, CEO of the Special Economic Zones Authority (SEZA); Thatayaone Ndzinge, Director of Shared Services at SEZA; Dithapelo Lefoko Keorapetse, Chairman of the Public Accounts Committee; Ishmael Joseph, CEO of PEEPA; and Keletsositse Olebile, Director of the Botswana Investment and Trade Centre (BITC). The delegation also met with leading private sector representatives.
A consistent theme across the meetings was Botswana’s ambition to move beyond its diamond-driven economic model to a knowledge-based and service economy, with highly efficient public services and PPP frameworks, and to position itself as a global leader in governance innovation.
The country already maintains an advanced public sector presence, with functioning institutional frameworks across the Office of the President, Finance, and economic development bodies. The current government’s priority is to translate that institutional base into a genuinely future-proof governance model by eliminating interdepartmental bottlenecks, accelerating technology adoption, and embedding regenerative practices across public administration.
The visit produced a high degree of consensus on the scope and intent of the collaboration. Two projects were agreed upon:
Future-Proof Governance Assessment – a comprehensive evaluation of the Government of Botswana using SSI’s proprietary framework, benchmarked against key criteria of governance competitiveness and future readiness.
Digital Economic Zone (DEZ) – a next-generation special digital zone designed to attract frontier industries and create enabling infrastructure for digital innovation.
Both projects received strong endorsement from Duma Boko, President of Botswana. SSI was positioned by the Presidential Envoy as an overarching strategic partner responsible for supporting top-level government transformation and bringing in world-class expertise.
